Notes: The paintings illustrating this book were made on a 2024 hiking and rafting trip in the Grand Canyon. Before the trip Donna read “The Emerald Mile” by Fedarko. As she hiked to the river, and especially when rafting, she recalled stories from the book telling of the intrepid river runners who set a speed record for rafting down the Colorado River in the 1980s. Those stories and especially the insight shared in the chosen quote resonated with Donna, also an intrepid hiker in the Grand Canyon and other wild places, and inspired her to create this book.
