| Endometrial Cancer Stages | |
Stage I - Cancer remains in the body of the uterus
IA - Cancer is in the endometrium (uterine lining) only
IB - Cancer has gone into the muscular layer under the endometrium (called the myometrium), but has invaded less than half of its thickness.
IC - Cancer has extended to more than half of the thickness of the myometrium
Stage II - The tumor has extended to the cervix
IIA - The cancer is only in the glands of the endocervix (the part of the cervix nearest the body of the uterus).
IIB - It has invaded deeper into the cervix (into the "stroma")
Stage III - The tumor has spread beyond the uterus, but is still in the pelvic area
IIIA - Cancer spread to the tissues around the uterus, or fallopian tubes, or cancer cells are found in the fluid of the peritoneum
IIIB - Spread to the vagina
IIIC - Spread to nearby lymph nodes
Stage IV - More distant spread of the cancer
IVA - To the inside of the rectum or bladder
IVB - To more distant parts of the body, such as abdominal organs or the lungs
